Don Johnson is a self-taught musician from Tidewater Virginia. He began playing guitar at age six and sang in the gospel choir of his church as a youth. He played his first paying gig at age 13 and played with a variety of groups in Virginia and Pennsylvania throughout his teens. After leaving the Army, Don was drawn to the blues scene in Harrisburg, where he has lived most of his post-Army life. Don has been a fixture in Harrisburg’s jazz/blues community for more than 20 years. His individual style has been influenced by such greats as Albert King, Buddy Guy, BB King and Jimi Hendrix. Don's soulful vocals and creative guitar were featured in a Blues musical called The Tear Jar , an original blues show in 2008. He has played in many bands
over the years including 'The Don Johnson Project' which participated in the 2008 and 2009 International Blues Challenge in Memphis. Don Johnson can often be found jamming at the Blues Society of Central Pennsylvania weekly gathering.
